I have a little problem. My Brother plays the Bass Guitar and I play the drums. We have loads of microphones to record all of the sound, but we have not come across any FREEWARE which can let us record from all of the microphones at the same time. The minimal microphones we need to use is two.
Which site could i get it from?
What is it called?
Is it FREEWARE?
If you only have one input it cannot be done and no software can separate the mixed input to separate tracks..
The only options you have are to purchase a small external mixer or use a combination of adapter plugs.
The adapter plug method should work but I haven't tried it.
You'll need a "Y" adapter (2 mic inputs to one output).
If you can find one with suitable input sockets (2 x 1/4 ifreewarench [6.5 mm] jacks) to a single 1/8 inch (3.5mm) jack to the computer input.
If not you'll need a 1/4 to 1/8th inch adapter.
Clumsy but cheaper than a mixer.
If it works it's just a matter of mic position to get the best result.
If you both want to play and record at the same time these are your only options.
To record in multi-track format (normal studio recording method) Audacity is a free multi-track recording and editing program.
It is not plug and play.
You will need to learn how to use it to get the best results.
Audacity:

How to install Lame:
Basic tutorials:
Multi-track recording setup:
Version 1.2 via File menu, version 1.3 via Edit menu.
Preferences / Audio I/O tab and check:
"play other tracks whfreewareile recording new one".
Import the first track then monitor it while recording subsequent track/s.
It's best to use headphones while doing this.
Note:
The last time I answered a question with similar detail it was deleted by Yahoo as being in contravention of the guidelines for being chat or rant.
USB mics, not sure if you can get standard mic-to-USB but that'd be an option then you still need to get software BUT w/ most you can record two inputs and pan them one to each side (Left or right) and they'll be separated when you pan the track to one side or the other
